Volunteering
with the Culinary Tourism Alliance

Operating as a not-for-profit culinary tourism development organization, our mandate is to:

  • Be a global leader in diverse and inclusive culinary and agritourism destination development

  • Build destinations’ taste of place by supporting agriculture, viticulture, and aquaculture industries across the culinary tourism value chain

  • Foster stakeholder engagement and relationship building resulting in new and/or enriched food and agritourism experiences that are mindful of the natural resources and cultural manifestations showcase

  • Seek and encourage mutually beneficial partnerships to increase capacity, leverage audiences, promote innovation and maximize resources

  • Promote authentic tastes of place by sharing stories with pride, respectfully honouring the cultures that create these experiences

One of our member benefits is the eligibility to serve on the Board of Directors and Committees.

Volunteer involvement mutually benefits the volunteer and the Culinary Tourism Alliance. Through volunteer involvement, the CTA is able to accomplish its goals while providing meaningful opportunities for volunteers to develop and contribute to our mandate.

Volunteer involvement is based on relationships. Through volunteering you will develop new relationships and strengthen existing ones. Serving on the Board of Directors or Committee participation is one of the best ways to network with others in the culinary tourism value chain.

Principles
for Involvement

The Culinary Tourism Alliance recognizes that volunteers are an important human resource within our organization and we are committed to the appropriate infrastructure to support them.

Volunteers have responsibilities, making a commitment and being accountable to the Culinary Tourism Alliance.

Board of Directors

Annually in July, a call for nominations to fill any open positions on the Board of Directors goes out to the CTA network. As per our governing By-Laws the CTA requires a minimum of eight (8) and maximum of ten (10) Board members from the membership to govern the organization.

The terms of service on the Board are for two (2) or three (3) years. The length of term are set on date of first Board meeting following their appointment at the Annual General Meeting held annually in October. A maximum term of service is 6 years. The Board of Directors appoints an Executive Committee consisting of a Board Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. The Board of Directors meets a minimum of four (4) times a year. Three (3) meetings are held via conference call or video conference and the Board is brought together in-person once annually at the expense of the Culinary Tourism Alliance.

Committee roles include:

  • Develop annual critical path for the committee to follow that is aligned with CTA tactical plans

  • Work with the Marketing team to promote achievements of the committee

  • Report back activity to Board via appointed staff or Board member serving on the committee

  • Committee Chairs will present YTD actions to the membership during the Annual General Meeting

DEI Committee

The DEI Committee will be reinstated in January 2022 to oversee the implementation of the DEI strategy that was developed by the Board, staff and external experts in 2021. The DEI Committee will have representation from the Board of Directors, staff and membership. A Committee Chair and Vice-Chair will be appointed at the first meeting held in 2022. The terms on the committee will be annual with the Chair position moving on after the one term to allow for the Vice-Chair to come into that position and a new committee member to be appointed as Vice-Chair.
